The Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) is an advanced biological wastewater treatment solution designed to deliver high performance within a compact footprint. The MBBR process uses a series of treatment compartments, each optimised for different stages of biological treatment. Initial zones focus on reducing biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), while subsequent compartments support nitrification for effective ammonia removal.
At the core of the system are specially designed plastic carrier media with a high specific surface area. These carriers move freely within the reactor, allowing beneficial microorganisms to form biofilms on their surface. As wastewater flows through the system, these biofilms break down pollutants efficiently.
Aeration systems deliver consistent airflow through diffusers in each compartment, ensuring optimal mixing and oxygen transfer. This supports healthy biological activity while keeping the media in motion. Integrated screening systems retain the media within each compartment while minimizing head loss.
Airflow is automatically controlled using dissolved oxygen (DO) monitoring, ensuring efficient operation, stable performance, and reduced energy consumption.
